Guide to help plan your move

• Solicit estimates from several moving companies
• Arrange to move all items, including family pet(s)
• For self moves, reserve a truck/trailer
• Obtain necessary supplies such as boxes, tape, labels, etc
• Establish a file for all moving relates papers
• Arrange to transfer school/medical records if necessary
• Fill out post office change of address ( www.usps.com )
• Begin notifying credit card companies, magazine subscriptions, friends, relatives of new address
• Clean out and dispose of items
• Hold garage sale or donate items to charity
• Start packing
• Make travel plans and arrange for hotels, if needed
• Schedule to have utilities disconnected at present home and connected at new home
• Request cancellation of homeowner's/Renter's insurance at present location and purchase for new house
• Prepare car registration and insurance records for transfer
• Dispose of items too dangerous to move, such as lighter fluid
• Transfer all bank accounts
• Discontinue newspaper delivery
• Have ample supply of any medication, until able to establish this at new location
• Set aside valuable items to carry with you
• Supervise loading/unloading, packing and unpacking process
• Have a box of essentials (coffee pot, toilet paper, remote controls) clearly marked, so you will find it right away at the new location
